Lightroom Infrared Color Swap Profiles review

After many frustrating attempts, I was about to give up on IR photography when I came across Rob’s YT channel and book. In addition to the ‘usual’ information (camera conversion, filters, etc.), I found the physical basics necessary for a deeper understanding of the topic to be very helpful. The most valuable part of the book for me, however, deals in detail with the subject of image development, garnished with inspiring images (I had failed miserably on this part so far). I warmly recommend this book to IR beginners (like me).

Book review

As someone who has had the good luck of following Rob Shea’s YouTube channel and blog since they were started it comes as no surprise that his book Color Doesn’t Exist: A Practical Guide to Infrared Photography is an excellent and comprehensive resource for anyone interested in infrared photography. The information in the book is well chosen, and presented in a well-organized and friendly way, as is the case in the videos and blog articles. Also, the book is beautifully laid out and produced, with many outstanding photographs.

Book review

If you have a question about infrared photography, it’s almost certainly answered in [Rob's] book. Rob’s YouTube videos and 1-2-1 tutorials have been invaluable in helping me progress in this field. Too often other videos and articles miss vital details, but that’s not the case here. Thanks Rob, there’s a huge amount of work which wil be useful for a very long time!

Book review

Everything Rob does is absolutely the best. I was looking for a place to leave an overall review that covered more than IR color swaps but couldn’t locate it so I’m leaving comments here. Yes, the swaps are well done and have helped my workflow. However, more than that are the incredible clear and detailed free videos I have watched. Also, I LOVE his book, ‘Color Doesn’t Exist’. Rob is a born instructor, who leaves no important fact out. I have learned so much. Thank you Rob for consistently going the extra mile.

Lightroom Infrared Color Swap Profiles review

To be honest this is the first time I’ve bought something like this, and I was a little nervous that it might not work for me. Fortunately for me, this time it has been the opposite, this has contributed enormously to my workflow and to be able to aesthetically achieve what I have always sought. Highly recommended.

Lightroom Infrared Color Swap Profiles review

Rob Shea

When I first started in infrared photography, I faced many of the same challenges as you. I started creating videos and blogging to capture my learnings and share them. My goal is to navigate you though the bumpy introduction to infrared photography so that you can get the joy of photography faster. I am an infrared, landscape, and travel photographer who has created over 125 YouTube videos on infrared photography. I've created multiple tools to simplify the complex editing workflow for color infrared images, including the Infrared Profile Pack and Chrome Profile Pack. I pioneered the use of Enhanced Profiles to bring color swapping into Lightroom. My book, Color Doesn’t Exist: A Practical Guide to Infrared Photography, is the definitive guide for photographers new to and experienced with infrared photography.

FAQs

❓ Do I need any experience with infrared photography? No prior infrared photography experience is required. This course covers everything you need to get started. ❓ Do I need any experience with Lightroom? No Lightroom editing experience is required. You should have a basic understanding of how to import your images into Lightroom. ❓Do I need to own a subscription to Lightroom? Yes, you will need an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. I recommend the "Photography" (Lightroom and Photoshop) or "Lightroom" (Lightroom-only) plans. ❓Do I need to purchase profiles? No additional purchase is required. There are three workflows covered, and you can use any of them. Two of the workflows use free profiles. One workflow uses enhanced profiles, which you can build or purchase. ❓Does this course apply to me if I use Lightroom Classic? All of the fundamentals in this course apply to both Lightroom (cloud) and Lightroom Classic. This course is targeted at Lightroom users. Lightroom Classic has a slightly different interface, but all of the same functionality as Lightroom. Many of the keyboard shortcuts are different between Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. A future course will cover this same content for Lightroom Classic. ❓Do I need any Photoshop experience? No. Photoshop is used in one of three optional workflows. The remaining workflows use Lightroom only. ❓Do I need a converted camera? An infrared or full-spectrum converted camera is not required. However, you will get cleaner and more colorful images with a converted camera. ❓What infrared filters does this support? The techniques covered in this course support color and monochrome infrared photography shot with high-pass infrared filters ranging from 515 to 850 nm, including popular 590, 665, 720, and 830 nm filters. High-pass filters below 750nm capture infrared and some visible light, allowing for both color and monochrome infrared images. High-pass filters above 750 nm capture infrared-only light and result in monochrome images.  ❓Does this course cover Black and White editing? Yes, in addition to covering the color workflows, we will also walk through the monochrome processing workflow. ❓I have already successfully edited infrared images. Do I need this course? This course will cover my recommended workflows. It could be useful to you if you are looking to streamline your processing workflow.
